Introduction to the Eastern Region Green Party

At the 1999 European Parliamentary Elections, the Eastern Region was officially recognised as a political entity. It is a large and diverse region that encompasses an eclectic range of social influences and cultures. The region embraces both urban and rural areas, and has a long and complex coastline with many important wildlife habitats. The economy embraces manufacturing, service industries and agriculture as well as world renowned educational institutes.

The Green Party has members and groups all across the region including elected councillors and active local parties. The Green Party election campaigns are based on a wide range of cohesive and far reaching policies aimed at developing a sustainable society. There are currently 26 principal authority Green Councillors in the region, sitting on 8 District, Borough, City and County Councils. The number of elected Green councillors has risen at each election since 1999. There are also many more Greens with seats on Town and Parish councils.

The Green Party in the Eastern Region is getting stronger all the time. New local parties are being created, new members are joining and more Greens are getting elected. People know that supporting the Green Party makes a real difference. This message will help us to continue to strengthen the party in the region, including getting an MEP elected in 2009.
