Liverpool Hope University: 13th to 16th Sep 2007

Leading Green Party members from Eastern Region will be travelling to Liverpool to attend the national party Autumn Conference and AGM, to be held from 13th to 16th September on the Everton campus of Liverpool Hope University.

The Green Party has made substantial progress in 2007, gaining its highest ever number of principal authority councillors, up from 93 to 110. The party's finances are in the best shape they have been for many years and for the first time in the party's history there is a strong possibility that the next general election will see Green MPs elected to Westminster. In both Brighton Pavilion and Norwich South, the Green vote at the May elections aggregated across all the council wards of each constituency placed the Greens in first place.

Whilst the other parties dither and delay on tackling climate change, the Greens press on with radical proposals to tackle this vital issue. There are 4 policy motions before conference on climate change, and the party will also be presenting a policy document on climate change, which has been written with the assistance of Eastern Region members.

Debates and discussions will take place on the forthcoming referendum of party members on whether or not the Green Party should have a Leader and Deputy Leader or Co-Leaders. In November, all members of the party will be balloted on whether or not to support this constitutional change.
