Eastern Region Green Party members will be gathering in Cambridge on October 20th for their regular regional meeting. The press and media are invited before the meeting, at 12 noon, for the launch of the Green's campaign to gain their first MEP in the region at the elections due in June 2009. Many of the Green's list candidates will be present for photo opportunities and interviews, including lead candidate Cllr. Dr. Rupert Read from Norwich.

The Green Party has 2 UK MEPs (since 1999), representing London and South East regions. Eastern Region is regarded as one of the top prospects for further progress. Eastern Region has seen the number of Green councillors increasing year on year (now 22 on Principal Authorities and many more on Town and Parish Councils).

The Greens selected their 7 list candidates for the European elections by a one-member-one-vote postal ballot across the six counties of the region.

As well as stepping up local campaigns to win more councils seats in 2008, the Greens have started distribution of a regional newsletter Green View which will be delivered to tens of thousands of homes across the region in key areas. Back issues can be downloaded from the regional website at www.easterngreenparty.org.uk The new issue due out soon has features on Greens opposing Labour Government plans to privatise more parts of the NHS and an expose on how Essex Tories are breaking elections promises on green issues.
