Green MEP to launch campaign and tour region on April 3rd as Greens look forward to further council gains

Green Party Principal Speaker Dr Caroline Lucas MEP will be launching the national and Eastern Region local election campaign on Thursday April 3rd at 5pm outside the Forum in Norwich City centre.

Dr. Lucas will also be conducting a tour of the region on the same day, visiting local Greens in support of their election campaigns.

Eastern Region is rapidly becoming a major growth area for the Greens, who have expanded their number of principal authority councillors from just 2 in May 1999 to over 20 in May 2007. This year elections are held on May 1st and the party is expecting further gains, with Norwich being tipped to see the Green Group of Councillors become the largest opposition party - the first time on any principal local authority in Britain. Greens are also campaigning hard to make gains on other authorities such as Waveney as well as win their first seats on authorities such as Colchester and Cambridge.

Dr. Lucas, MEP for South East England and the most likely Green to become the first ever Westminster MP for the party at the next General Election said:

"A Green vote is a vote for local communities, public services, healthy lives, environmental sustainability, peace and democracy - and, of course, a vote for seriously tough action on climate change."

The itinery of Dr. Lucas on April 3rd is as follows:

  • Colchester: 10.30/11.00
  • Ipswich: 13.40
  • Stowmarket: 14.30
  • Norwich: 17.00
